Welcome to my first newsletter, Notoriously__Picky’s Picks.
The past two weeks have been filled with positivity. First, I resumed instagramming (missed you, guys). Second, we are coming out of lockdown - the augmented sense of freedom, like being able to visit a hairdresser, inspires creativity. The possibilities feel abundant, bigger than the queue to Primark. Having said that, I approach them with caution, trying not to push my luck too far. So I will leave travel and lifestyle for when normalcy becomes normality, and will focus today on fashion that was created in lockdown, with freedom in mind and a view to be enjoyed now.
Designer Pick - Dries Van Noten
“The Dries look is distinct: the colour palette is always discerning and the cuts innovative” - I came across this quote on 24S from which I recently bought
this piece
Love it for colour and texture. Made from stretch mesh, it can be worn as a layering piece or on its own, thanks to the clever, batik-style print that complements the fabric and makes it less transparent.
Two more exciting picks from the same collection and in the same price range:
1. Fishnet top
- It’s a real find that will get more wears in the next 6 month than anything else in my wardrobe: I’ll throw it on top of my existing outfits for a stylish makeover, I’ll wear it by the poolside in summer (daydreaming) and then, in autumn, with a turtleneck and a blazer for a social outing (fishnet will still be going strong as a layering piece for AW21 as seen on runway). Spoiler: this top will have its debut in my next Instagram post.
2.
Organza overlay tank -A strong contender, this tank is less versatile than the fishnet top, but put aside practicality and imagine this organza overlay fluttering in sea breeze as you stroll down the beach - sold!
Overall, the collection is an intelligent mix of vibrant statement pieces and easy styling essentials, something for everyone in a wide range of prices - Dries Van Noten SS21.
Styling Pick - Prada styling tricks behind my recent Instagram post
“Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’s new partnership is unprecedented in fashion,”- wrote Vogue about SS21 Prada/Raf Simon debut. It’s no surprise that such a partnership resulted in a number of statement pieces and looks, which defined the current season and will reappear in this or that form in seasons ahead. The two major trends:
The combo looked incredible when paired with Prada’s slingbacks. But Style means never wearing head to toe of any one label (unless you are paid for it). At this point my Rokh trench came to hand - it served the purpose and completed the look.
Items featured in my post: Prada turtleneck , Prada ‘holey’ sweather , Prada slingbacks , Rokh trench (SS20). By the way my current favourite alternative to Prada ‘holey’ turtleneck is the one by Maisie Wilen, it comes in an array of cheerful colours and does the trick.
