Shades of Green
Hi, everyone. Are you as crazy about green at the moment as I am? Undoubtably, “green” is not just the colour - it, and this is more important, is a concept. Recently, I wrote about @gunda hafner_ltd, a sustainable brand, which resonates with me. In this newsletter, I would like to dwell more on the subject of sustainability and explore shades of green, from greed-green to true-green, and how I differentiate between them.
Lifestyle Pick - Understanding The Green Concept
I am enjoying watching this culture shift towards sustainability. However, the word “sustainable” is often overused by the fashion industry in its desire to look good and sell more - this is greed-green. It’s not enough to say that a brand is sustainable because it pays a teeny-tiny portion of its profits to offset carbon emission. “Green” is a symbiosis of many factors: from materials to production and distribution. The more sustainable business practices are implemented along the way, the greener the brand. So, before you fall for something which claims to be sustainable, check what they mean by it. You will be surprised how many shades of green are out there. True green, probably, doesn’t exist. Yet, transparency and honesty of the brand about their practices really matter here.
Brand pick - Attire The Studio
To be honest, I was sceptical when Xenia Adonts launched her brand. Nevertheless, I ordered two items from her first collection and they exceeded my expectations. Those items, by the way, had a good resale value. It looks like Xenia really cares and Carmela, the Head of Design, is a true advocate of sustainability. They experiment. Not all of their sustainable initiatives I find viable (youthful maximalism and being ahead of the time occasionally override practicality), however, they really push forward and that deserves applause. My picks from their summer collection: Trench Coat and Matching Shorts
At this point I have to confess: as much as I am willing to go “green”, I can’t yet commit to buying sustainable products only. What I know for sure, though, is that I am making changes to my lifestyle to live more ethically and choosing things that not only look good, but feel good too. With that said, on to green as a colour.
Trend pick - Colour Me Green
Bottega Green - It’s hard to beat Bottega, The Trendsetter. Its grass-green of the season became a real obsession. If you are willing to be a part of the gang, but don’t want to file for bankruptcy, check out these items: Lace-up Sandals, Halterneck Swimsuit, Cotton-blend T-shirt. Perfect for a holiday look, they are also easy to incorporate into an everyday wardrobe - consider them a bargain!
Emerald Green - this Zimmermann’s dress has got my heart. Love its alternative shade of green, but more so the fabric. Cotton-terry is having its moment and I am not surprised. I’ve been a fan of it for my holiday wardrobe for years. This summer I am also introducing it to my everyday wear. (Remember those green BV platform slides? Yes to cotton-terry!)
Versatile Green - bright green trend will, surely, soon be over, but classier, less shouty shades, like olive and khaki, are here to stay. Try this Baserange’s dress in a simple minimalistic silhouette. Accessorise it with brighter colours to create the look of the season and keep it for a future use. What a find!
Bargain Pick - Green Cardie
