Lessons From The Fashion Month And How I Would Tackle FW21 Trends
Hi and how was your Fashion Month?
It seems like yesterday that the extravaganza started in New York, but now Paris has already had its curtain call. And who, do you think, made it to the top for me? Forget designers and super brands, it was street stylers.
As Harper Bazaar described it: “New York Fashion Week street style felt like the freaky fashion release we all needed.” That “freakiness” became more extreme in London. Milan proved it was here to stay, while Paris added glam to the freak.
Among the “fits” from the NY Fashion Week street style that Harper Bazaar noted was a puffed piece from Emilio Pucci X Tomo Koizumi. I was posing in it too, but in London. I styled my organza sleeves with a new season’s dress from Low Classic. Love this look for the contrast: exuberant v demure - a freaky combo of juxtaposed proportions playing on female strength.
With personal style currently dominating over trends, there is no reason to hide in the shadows. We all need to contribute to the future of fashion. After all, what would street style be without us?
As for SS22, I might be wrong, but I haven’t spotted a single revolutionary collection. At the shows this month, brands put another spin on their bestsellers: bras, knits, animal print and optimistic hues - same, but different, and now it all feels fresh again. What’s more, the look that I did for Prisé Switzerland would be as current next summer as it was a month ago.
And although I appreciated that, I still was hoping for something totally new, so different and overwhelming that it would blow my mind, something on the scale of what Demna Gvasalia did back in 2015 or more recently, Daniel Lee in 2019. To be fair, Burberry tried it with exposed rear bits, but went over the top (or should I say over the bottom?). It could be just me, but shocking doesn’t cut it anymore. How long will our wait for that supernova be? Till then, back to reimagining our cherished pieces. Sigh.
Now about something more eminent than SS22, and I mean FW21. For me, it’s all about accessories this season. They can change your existing wardrobe and take it seamlessly into the current season. Divulging my favourite pieces below:
Scarf Pick - Crochet has recently made its comeback and looks like it’s here to stay. What could be a better way to try it with your existing wardrobe than a scarf? These Miu Miu scarves come in an array of colours and will brighten up even the dullest winter coat. The trendy way to wear them now though is with quilted puffers. Try code LNCC-SPECIAL-20 for 20% off, it might still work.
Hat Pick - The balaclava trend may be too much for some of us to adopt (unless you are planning a bank heist), but this piece from Bevza has a hat detail that balances the look and makes it more wearable. Half way in, sort of thing.
Gloves Pick - Go Yeti or go Lady. If the whole Miu Miu yeti look is too extreme for you, introduce the Abominable Snowman trend in the form of gloves. So much fun and spot on trend: BV , Max Mara. Alternately, channel your inner lady by wearing long gloves. Prada is taking the lead here with its pouch detail collection in leather or jacquard
Sunglasses Pick -Very nicely priced for a top brand, these BV shades are new season, fun and come in a flattering D-shape. All you need to do is to chose your colour.
Bag Pick- Not one, but two picks here. For the shearling trend I would go for Stefan Cook’s tasselled bag. The oversized bag that caught my eye was Coperni zip-detail bag - a real bargain, given its size and classic, but quirky design. Also I saw it in white, something on my list to buy.
Happy stylish autumn!
